FIT & Flirty Sports Bra SaleI believe in setting goals with a realistic plan on how to get there.

But I do not prescribe to resolutions, because no matter where you are currently; IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. Therefore, you DO NOT NEED A SOLUTION.

Resolutions are limiting, and subconsciously suggest that a part of yourself, of your past or your future requires fixing. YOU, are not a problem!

Setting an intention will help you look at your current situation and ask yourself where you want to go, grow or become. This typically comes from a more soulful space, which helps you uncover the deeper reason behind your intention. It takes you in the present and asks; “How can I develop, expland or learn in any given area?”

Over 80% of people will fail to achieve their New Year’s Resolutions due to a few reasons.

1- The excitement, determination or willpower you feel at the beginning of January will eventually dissolve when your “resolution” has turned into an obligation.

2- When results don’t happen as quickly as hoped, you get discouraged and quit.

3- The fundamental message of your resolution will constantly whisper in the back of your mind “something is wrong with me. I need to be fixed” and this will eventually sabotage your success.

Now if you’re reading this blog there’s a good chance you’ve set a resolution that may be health, fitness or weight loss related. I challenge you to look at that resolution and turn it into an intention.

Here is an example:

Resolution – I want to lose 10lbs in 2020

Intention –2020 I intend to make my physical health a priority by incorporating regular exercise and feeding my body with foods that nourish and support my overall well-being.

Now doesn’t that feel sooo much better? It does not feel limiting or restrictive. Nor does it suggest that something is wrong with you.

Now, write out an action plan, read your intention every morning, remind yourself of your “why” – I promise, your intension will become your reality.

Here is one of mine….

Intention – in 2020 I intend to expand on current my fitness routine to allow space for adventure and new friendship.

As an action plan, I compiled a list of 2020 fitness trends that will be physically challenging adventurous and/or a social fitness activity.

1- Indoor Rowing Class

I must admit; this not my favorite machine at the gym. But I discovered that the rowing machine uses 85% of the muscles in your body, so this trend is worth exploring! Also, being a non-impact workout, its perfect for people with long standing injuries or muscle/knee/joint weakness.

Looking forward to trying it at CLUB ROW and sweat buckets in my “I Sweat Champagne” cap sleeve tank.

2- Gettin Back In The Pool

Once upon a time, I had a swim coach…. Swimming is an age-old form of exercise which gently engages the entire body, making it perfect for any fitness level. This is another low impact workout that builds beautiful strong, lean muscles. Time for me to take the plunge, and then dry off in my favorite beach towel.

3- Try Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga started in the early 2000s and has been slowly gaining popularity. The practice combines dance, acrobatics and fitness is a serious core workout and helps with posture, flexibility and strength. Unless I’ve had a bottle of champagne, I don’t have much rhythm and I lack even more in flexibility, so this is sure to be a challenge for me! But at least I will look cute in my sparkling “I Sweat Champagne” sport bra and leggings

4- Join a Running Club

This is a trend that I can personally endorse, and I look forward to finding the right group again.

Twelve years ago, I sent the intention to run a 10km (my why was to put my physical health first and stop smoking). Since then I have never looked back; I’ve ran a number of races since, with my marathon being my biggest accomplishment to date. Who knew I could get a high off something other than champagne?!

Okay champagne sipping babes, it’s that time of year when there are so many chances to be drinking, drunk or hungover.

Office Christmas parties, your boss wants you to entertain clients, your besties have you booked every Wednesday for holidays sips and your boyfriend is begging you to go to his staff party too!

All this holiday “cheer” has you sleep deprived, and your ever-growing festivity schedule is making it almost impossible to keep up with your workout routine.  Halloween candy and Thanksgiving dinner have already taken a toll, but after all your hard work this year you don’t plan on ending 2019 looking like a stuffed turkey!

But don’t worry girl, we got you! The holiday survival guide for girls who love champagne will help you get through the alcohol fueled season feeling fit, fabulous and hangover free (maybe).

1.Be Selective

We often think that it’s the alcohol that makes us feel nauseous after a big night out, when in fact the sugar is often to blame… and oh those nasty empty calories. Obviously, we recommend sticking with champagne; which is low carb, lower in sugar and low calories. Also remember to always choose QUALITY over quantity and avoid MIXING!!

Let’s take a look at some popular seasonal choices for alcoholic beverages per serving calorie counts:

2. Stay Hydrated

Drinking alcohol dehydrates the body, which is why we tend to feel lightheaded and weak after a big night out. The best thing you can do to prevent a hangover is to stay hydrated by drinking water – 1:1 ratio. I personally almost never remember this rule but without fail, my go-to hangover prevention is a massive glass of water (with an aspirin) right before bed and then a load of electrolytes the next morning.

3.Eat Something

Do not drink on an empty stomach! Ensuring you’ve had a nutritious meal before popping bottles all night is essential to avoiding those “embarrassing” moments as well as helping with your recovery the next day. You may want to wear that tight black dress but if the figure-hugging outfit compromises your ability to breath or eat, perhaps you should reconsider. If you’re at a catered event with foods, try snacking on the healthier choices throughout the evening. Vegetables & dip, fruit plates, assorted nuts, chicken skewers, and salad are all good choices. If possible, avoid cakes & cookies, deep fried foods as well as high carb options.

4.Up Your Anti-Inflammatory Game

Science shows that consuming anti-inflammatory’s before you drink alcohol can decrease the likelihood of you suffering from one of those killer headaches. The below items have anti-inflammatory properties:

    • Turmeric
    • Broccoli sprouts
    • Peppermint Tea
    • Oats

5.SWEAT IT OUT

Although working out may seem like the last thing you may want to do after a night out, it’s my favorite hangover recovery! I tend to stick to cardio, an outdoor run, or spin class. This will boost your endorphins and help you beat the dreaded “hangxiety” or those “boozyblues“.

5.Mimosas

The NFL Season is my favorite season of the year!

I was introduced to football by my boyfriend at the time; and as a young Canadian lady who knew nothing about the game I choose “my team” based on uniform colors, good looking players and my obsession with Jon Gruden (aka Chucky). Yes, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccanners for over 15 years.  l’ve been to 10 stadiums and over 20 games so far. I partake in betting and weekly pools and I’ve spent more money than I wish to share on apparel at www.nfl.com

When I travel to see live games, my pre-gaming includes bottomless mimosas. I pop bottles when we score a touchdown and I drown my sorrow in the bottom of the bottle when the tides turn in last quarter and we’re left  with a loss.

I never make plans on Sunday with friends who won’t watch the game, and I plan my workout around the Bucs kickoff time.

It’s no surprise then, that the NLF ‘s lady viewership has been increasing year after year.

In 2017, the NFL estimated roughly 45% of football fans were female. Super Bowl 51 in 2017 ratings were down about 3% overall and the lowest in eight years, but women constituted about 49% of the 108 million-plus people who watched the game. Without increasing interest from women, NFL ratings would be sliding more steeply than they already are.

Cardio Pain Then Champagne!

The temperatures are rising, the days are longer and the sun is brighter. Yes, my friends, summer is right around the corner….and there’s no question this is my favorite time of year to get my workouts done outside!

As a Vancouverite, I am blessed with so many fun fitness activities I can do outside. I spend less time inside fitness studios and more time hiking, running on the local trails, doing hill drills to improve my race pace, stair sprints at wreck beach, climbing the Grouse Grind, and biking up at Whistler. But also, during the summer months, after a great cardio session, there’s quite often champagne!

This is the season when the invites and opportunities to get together with friends and sip champagne are endless. Rosé Champagne on the boat, rosé all day at the beach, champagne on your favorite patio, backyard parties, sneaking out of work early for happy hour, picnics in the park, pool days, outdoor concerts, glamping or poppin’ bottles just because it’s a beautiful Monday evening.

After launching FIT & Flirty in August of 2018 I quickly realized I had a message to share with the fitness community and the world. More than anything I want women to stop obsessing over their dress size, the number on the scale or achieving a “perfect body”. I want to encourage every single lady to recognize that no matter where she is on her fitness journey, she is beautiful as is, powerful because of her uniqueness and should be celebrated (with champagne of course). I want women to see fitness as a tool to improve their lives and not as something they need to do to look a certain way or as a punishment for eating cake last night.

I knew without a doubt there were other like-minded women around the world that saw fitness for its health benefits, as a way to feel strong through having fun and NOT as a means to try and achieve what society says is a “perfect body” this year. I believe when you’re healthy, strong (body & mind) and happy you radiate in the eye of others, regardless if you’re a size 2 or size 16. It’s our energy that make us beautiful not our waist size.

They say “your vibe attracts your tribe…” so I decided to start an ambassador group to reach ladies that shared my love for fitness, champagne and living a balanced life. I have to say the last 5 months building this small tribe (we’re 18 girls now) has been the most rewarding part of my business. I am so blessed to have met every single one of them. Strong, independent, supportive women from across the world, all thriving in different careers, crushing it at life and making fitness fun. YES, you can have your fitness and champagne too!

Today I would like to introduce to you one of the newest additions to the FIT & Flirty ambassador team, Courtney Boehrer. This lady is a very special soul, with an infectious energy and passion for life. Here is her story….

Keep your Head Up, Keep your Heart Strong.

courtney pfennig boehrerMy name is Courtney and my mantra is HEARTSTRONG.  These very words have shaped the person I am today. While it didn’t become apparent to me until 5 years ago, I’ve been living them my entire life.

When I was a little girl growing up in Indiana, my heart failed me. While my friends were swimming, dancing and playing I was introduced to the seriousness of life all too soon. I remember the smells of the hospital, seeing my dad cry for the first time and watching the worry in my mother’s eye. I recall hearing my sister proclaim her dream to become a doctor (which she did!).  I can still feel the pain of the tubes like it was yesterday, as they were inserted and removed from my chest. I can sense the fear I felt when I was wheeled into the operating room to have my chest cracked open to repair the holes in my heart.

Today, I have an 8-inch scar that runs down my sternum and I wear it proudly. As a member of the zipper club, it’s one of the many battle wounds I’ve endured in my life, and it’s a reminder to keep fighting, even when the most vital part of me starts to break.

Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I was keeping my head up, while making my heart strong.

I have a passion to inspire others through fitness coaching. My career mentorship as a Human Resources leader for over 15 years at a Fortune 100 company, and the blessing of parenthood as the momma of two beautiful little girls along side my high school sweetheart, Greg.

Burpees & BubblyI fully embraced the spirit of these words because I have fought hard with the demons of an eating disorder in college and I’ve also struggled with anxiety and depression. Luckily, in my health and fitness community I’ve found STRENGTH. Every single day, I wake up with the desire to spread the message of being HEALTHY & STRONG.

Does this mean every day is perfect for me? Heck no! Does it mean I don’t have fun and enjoy amazing food and drinks? Heck no! I may or may not be obsessed with Champagne!!

God gave me a second chance and by no means will waste that priceless gift.  I am proud to lead and continue to build my team #HEARTSTRONG every single day.
