Okay champagne sipping babes, it’s that time of year when there are so many chances to be drinking, drunk or hungover.

Office Christmas parties, your boss wants you to entertain clients, your besties have you booked every Wednesday for holidays sips and your boyfriend is begging you to go to his staff party too!

All this holiday “cheer” has you sleep deprived, and your ever-growing festivity schedule is making it almost impossible to keep up with your workout routine.  Halloween candy and Thanksgiving dinner have already taken a toll, but after all your hard work this year you don’t plan on ending 2019 looking like a stuffed turkey!

But don’t worry girl, we got you! The holiday survival guide for girls who love champagne will help you get through the alcohol fueled season feeling fit, fabulous and hangover free (maybe).

1.Be Selective

We often think that it’s the alcohol that makes us feel nauseous after a big night out, when in fact the sugar is often to blame… and oh those nasty empty calories. Obviously, we recommend sticking with champagne; which is low carb, lower in sugar and low calories. Also remember to always choose QUALITY over quantity and avoid MIXING!!

Let’s take a look at some popular seasonal choices for alcoholic beverages per serving calorie counts:

2. Stay Hydrated

Drinking alcohol dehydrates the body, which is why we tend to feel lightheaded and weak after a big night out. The best thing you can do to prevent a hangover is to stay hydrated by drinking water – 1:1 ratio. I personally almost never remember this rule but without fail, my go-to hangover prevention is a massive glass of water (with an aspirin) right before bed and then a load of electrolytes the next morning.

3.Eat Something

Do not drink on an empty stomach! Ensuring you’ve had a nutritious meal before popping bottles all night is essential to avoiding those “embarrassing” moments as well as helping with your recovery the next day. You may want to wear that tight black dress but if the figure-hugging outfit compromises your ability to breath or eat, perhaps you should reconsider. If you’re at a catered event with foods, try snacking on the healthier choices throughout the evening. Vegetables & dip, fruit plates, assorted nuts, chicken skewers, and salad are all good choices. If possible, avoid cakes & cookies, deep fried foods as well as high carb options.

4.Up Your Anti-Inflammatory Game

Science shows that consuming anti-inflammatory’s before you drink alcohol can decrease the likelihood of you suffering from one of those killer headaches. The below items have anti-inflammatory properties:

    • Turmeric
    • Broccoli sprouts
    • Peppermint Tea
    • Oats

5.SWEAT IT OUT

Although working out may seem like the last thing you may want to do after a night out, it’s my favorite hangover recovery! I tend to stick to cardio, an outdoor run, or spin class. This will boost your endorphins and help you beat the dreaded “hangxiety” or those “boozyblues“.

The NFL Season is my favorite season of the year!

I was introduced to football by my boyfriend at the time; and as a young Canadian lady who knew nothing about the game I choose “my team” based on uniform colors, good looking players and my obsession with Jon Gruden (aka Chucky). When I travel to see live games, my pre-gaming includes bottomless mimosas. I pop bottles when we score a touchdown and I drown my sorrow in the bottom of the bottle when the tides turn in last quarter and we’re left  with a loss.

I never make plans on Sunday with friends who won’t watch the game, and I plan my workout around the Bucs kickoff time.

It’s no surprise then, that the NLF ‘s lady viewership has been increasing year after year.

In 2017, the NFL estimated roughly 45% of football fans were female. Super Bowl 51 in 2017 ratings were down about 3% overall and the lowest in eight years, but women constituted about 49% of the 108 million-plus people who watched the game. Without increasing interest from women, NFL ratings would be sliding more steeply than they already are.

Cardio Pain Then Champagne!

The temperatures are rising, the days are longer and the sun is brighter. Yes, my friends, summer is right around the corner….and there’s no question this is my favorite time of year to get my workouts done outside!

As a Vancouverite, I am blessed with so many fun fitness activities I can do outside. I spend less time inside fitness studios and more time hiking, running on the local trails, doing hill drills to improve my race pace, stair sprints at wreck beach, climbing the Grouse Grind, and biking up at Whistler. But also, during the summer months, after a great cardio session, there’s quite often champagne!

This is the season when the invites and opportunities to get together with friends and sip champagne are endless. Rosé Champagne on the boat, rosé all day at the beach, champagne on your favorite patio, backyard parties, sneaking out of work early for happy hour, picnics in the park, pool days, outdoor concerts, glamping or poppin’ bottles just because it’s a beautiful Monday evening.

May brings a lot of exciting things at our house.

Mother’s Day, my birthday and Nate’s birthday all fall in this month and we love celebrating! In previous years, this month of celebration would have been just cause in my mind to take a break on all things “health and wellness” but NOT ANYMORE!

I believe in living a lifestyle that is as balanced as possible. As a mom, wife, full-time special education teacher and an online health & wellness coach I am BUSY! I focus my nutrition on eating by the 80/20 rule. That’s 80% healthy and 20% treats–or even cleaner on most weeks. This lifestyle has completely changed my life. It helped me lose 30 pounds when I first decided to make a change and then 40 pounds after having Gabe. I’m not about to look back!

Eating healthy and doing at-home fitness programs has allowed me to find the balance I need in my life. I stay on track as much as possible and allow myself to have treats without guilt. I absolutely LOVE baking and being in the kitchen, it’s a huge passion and hobby of mine; and cupcakes are my favorite!  I also like to take existing recipes and put a fun, and healthier spin on them. We brainstormed together to bring you myhealthy” spin on the Vanilla Cupcakes with Champagne Buttercream Frosting. Inspired of course, by our mutual love for bubbly and health & wellness. The cupcake is a health(ier) take on a typical cupcake. The frosting is a treat–so make sure to enjoy every bubbly bite!

Without further ado–let’s get baking!

Below are the ingredients you will need for My Special Champagne Cupcake

Vanilla Cupcake Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted grass-fed butter (you may also use earth balance vegan sticks!)
  • 3/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Champagne Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp champagne (of choice!)

Baking Cupcake Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Place cupcake liners into your baking pan, set aside.
  • Combine almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; mix well. Set aside.
  • Cream together 1/2 cup unsalted butter and coconut sugar in a mixing bowl; beat on medium speed for approximately 1 minute.
  • Add eggs one at a time; beat until well blended.
  • Add 1/4 cup almond milk and extract; beat until blended. (The mixture will look watery–do NOT worry!)
  • Add almond flour mixture to butter mixture slowly; beat until creamy; scraping the sides of the mixing bowl as needed
  • Spoon batter into prepared cupcake pan; filling liners about 3/4 full.
  • The batter will be a bit sticky. Spoon it into the cupcake liners and gently smooth the tops as best as you can. (don’t worry too much about the tops because–well, CHAMPAGNE FROSTING!)
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • After 5 minutes transfer to cool on a baking rack.

and now for the champagne frosting…. YUM!

Frosting Instructions

  • Cream butter in mixture until very smooth
  • Add 2 cups of powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time, blending each cup until smooth.
  • Add in 2 tbsp of champagne, mix thoroughly
  • Add in final cup of powdered sugar, blend until smooth
  • (optional) add in a fun natural food coloring to make it your favorite color!

These are the perfect treat for birthdays, Mother’s Day or any celebration. ESPECIALLY if you love champagne & cupcakes! Enjoy!

Her podcast “Style Your Mind“, her multiple books and over all business message gave me the courage to start FIT & Flirty – thank you Cara for your inspiration xo. 💕 In fitness, in business and in life, what allows you to reach your goals is YOUR MIND SET!

Then, I started thinking… What if I never took “inspired action” from the sparks of inspiration I got from Cara? Well for starters, you wouldn’t be reading this…

I was drawn to the The Champagne Diet (for obviously reasons). I love Cara’s style and her podcast “Style your Mind” and books have so much valuable content. What resonates with me and has the biggest impact is her authenticity and openness about her success; it did not come over night! Cara had another career and worked her side hustle for a long time; blogging and self publishing books on amazon for over 9 years! Her brand did not miraculously explode. The way she honestly shares the struggles, hard work and persistency she experienced was, and still is, greatly reassuring to me.

My first inspired action in March of 2018, was googling “how to start your own e-commerce business” and based on what I learned I put together an initial budget and timeline to launch. Trust me when I say I had NO plans to be in ANY of the photos, there was no consideration of a second collection within the first year and if you told me I’d build an ambassador team (of f*cking fabulous women around the world) I would have said you’re bat shit crazy! The thing is, when you’re doing what you love and take inspired action every single day, momentum takes over and before you know it your ideas to “sell champagne and fitness inspired t-shirts” has evolved into a something that has a much bigger purpose.

6. Take advantage of FREE resources at your disposal. You can learn almost anything online with the free e-books, webinars, social tools and much more!

7. Stop comparing and start supporting women.
