My last visit to Las Vegas was December 5th 2010. I woke up at five a.m., put on my running shoes and ran the Rock n’ Rock Marathon with a finish time of 4:13:10. Afterwards I celebrated my accomplishment until the sun came up the next morning.
So as a tribute to one of the best days of my life I thought it was appropriate to include some kind of fitness into my most recent trip to Sin City.
So I decided to book myself a Pre-Party Personal Training session. Here are my thoughts:
Gym: Bellagio Spa & Fitness Center is located at 3600 S Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas Nevada USA (702) 693-7111
Workout: Pre-party personal training session with Tony.
Facility: This gym is big, bright and clean. It’s filled with well organized rows of equipment; everything from treadmills, rowing machines, stationary bicycles, elliptical trainers and a plethora of weight training machines I personally have no experience with. Considering I was in Vegas I was quite surprised at how many people were there, though it did not appear many were breaking a real sweat. (Just saying!)
The spa is a woman’s dream with four large hot tubs, a steam room infused with eucalyptus, a sauna, cold towels, fully equipped showers with blower driers, curling irons, flat irons, and all the necessities you’d need to get ready for your night out! Not to mention the fully equipped snack bar with fruits, lemon water, coffee, tea, juices and much more to hydrate with.
My Trainer: Tony was super friendly and had a great vibe. We discussed what kind of workouts I usually do as well as my expectation for the session. His bulging muscles suggested to me that he was well educated on weight training and therefore I decided to go outside my comfort zone and try an hour of weight training. Tony made me feel completely at ease and wasn’t at all intimidating. Much to the contrary he insisted I was doing a fantastic job and made me feel like a rock star throughout the hour.
Cardio & Strength Training: As mentioned I accepted the challenge of a full body weight training session. I may not have been gasping for air or sweating profusely like I do after a run, bootcamp or spinning session but this workout pushed my body in a different way, and I felt it (especially my arms) for almost a week after. After a brief warm up Tony had me do 4 circuits, (legs, back, arms and abs) and each series was made up of of 3-4 different exercises which we repeated 3 times and increased the weight on each repetition For example the legs circuit included: the leg press machine, 1 minute of squats with dumbbell (started with 15lbs and finished with 30lbs), 1 minute squat hold, and leg raises & tucks on the dip machine X 3.
Bookings: The fitness facilities are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. I booked my training sessions a few weeks ahead of time, but I didn’t see a second Personal Training Session in action so I’d assume if you called in a few days before arrival you’d be able to book a trainer.
Pricing: Personal training sessions start at $80 per hour and this price gives you access to the Spa amenities. (Which were fabulous!)
Equipment: You’re not required to bring ANYTHING to your session. Water and towels are provided at no additional cost.
Difficulty: This training session was a test for me. I hadn’t done a weight training session in a few years and honestly had no clue what my threshold was going to be. Tony took the time to explain which muscle was being activated during each exercise. He gave great demonstrations and explained what not to do to avoid injuries and was very supportive and encouraging yet managed to push me way beyond where I would have gone on my own.
Summary: Like the Hotel Bellagio itself, the fitness facility and training session were amazing! Not only did I manage to do a solid weight session I actually enjoyed and learned a lot and will be incorporating these types of exercises in my weekly routine from now on. So while you’re Las Vegas if you’re looking for a good pre-party workout or a good detox sweat fest I recommend you stop in at the Bellagio fitness centre and ask for Tony! Don’t forget to follow up your training with some pampering at the spa!
